Off Piste Skiing

Off Piste Skiing Around Chamonix & the Alps

Heaps of powder snow, the glistening of the sun, the longing to carve those perfect endless bends in stunning scenery leaving your trail on untracked pristine snow.

Off-piste backcountry skiing is a great way to express your creativity away from the crowded groomed runs of the winter sports resorts.

In Chamonix, the mountains are particularly imposing, massive and powerful.

Skiing in Chamonix is a unique experience with some of the greatest vertical drops in the world…That is why a lot of skiers and free-riders from all over the world come here every winter.

Equipment has evolved over the last few years and the practice of off-piste skiing has considerably developed allowing for a wider choice of superb itineraries.

‘Off-piste’ does mean that you are in an environment that is by definition unmarked and non-secured so to minimize any potential risks (avalanches, crevasses, rocky ledges…), and to find better snow, we adapt according to the daily snow conditions and take you to the itinerary that best suits your motivation on the day of your tour. For these tours, necessary safety equipment will also be supplied: ARVA/transceiver, spade, probe, harness.

Itineraries can be:

Around Chamonix, where you can find a lot of superb off-piste skiing routes.

  • The Vallée Blanche: An amazing moment into the heart of the glaciers.
  •
  • The Grands Montets: one the famous off-piste skiing resorts in the Valley. Beautiful descents on the glaciers but as well in the forest. Some of these routes are just fabulous, like the ” Pas de Chèvre “, an unforgettable route from the top [of where?] to Chamonix, by the bottom of the Drus (route for good skiers only)

  • The Aiguilles Rouges: The Brevent and the Flegère are two resorts facing the Mont Blanc range. Beautiful views and sunny side, early in the morning.

  • Courmayeur: On the Italian side of the Mont Blanc. Very nice descents, in a different atmosphere. With a slightly warmer climate than Chamonix, Courmayeur often offers very good conditions and good weather when it’s snowing in Chamonix! (and of course, cafe, pizza and tiramisu!)

  • Le Tour/Vallorcine: Located at the very end of the Chamonix Valley, this resort is really pretty and offers forest off-piste skiing routes or one of the longest descents on the Trient side, in Switzerland. One of our favorite places!

Discover many iconic resorts as well within an hour drive of Chamonix: Zermatt, Cervinia, Verbier, La Clusaz, Le Grand Bornand, Seythenex…

In the Southern Alps, discover the amazing resort of La Grave/La Meije. Created for off-piste and backcountry skiing, this place is just awesome for those who seek wild and long freeride routes! We have guided many skiers there and all have come back with a twinkle in their eyes… A place not to be missed if you can be free for 3 consecutive days.
